in the Harvest

"For the mountains shall depart
And the hills be removed,
But My kindness shall not depart from you,
Nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,”
Says the Lord, who has mercy on you
.  Isaiah 54:10 NKJV

The D’Ettorre communication this time comes from a slightly different perspective—the pilot’s wife.

Warning: This newsletter is not technical and contains absolutely no aviation jargon!

As a reading specialist, I have the joy of tutoring children with reading difficulties at the library in Wauchula. Since Harvest Aviation is located right at the Wauchula airport, we have been able to make life work with one car, which has been a real blessing.

Wauchula is a small Southern town with a large homeschool community, a strong sense of family, and solid churches. It has been such a sweet place for us to serve, worship, and become part of the community.

In addition to teaching my delightful students, I spend my days editing Vic’s communications, coordinating opportunities to connect with the families of our pilots in training, and joining the Harvest team for Friday prayer.

Proud of the grit, the growth, and the incredible chapters

they are writing for themselves.

One of the highlights at Harvest for me has been watching God work. Weekly prayer has been especially exciting because new people—and particularly young people—have joined us. Young people bring life and energy, and it has been a joy to see them become part of what God is doing at Harvest.

Another aspect of watching God work has been through the monthly prayer requests we include in our newsletters. The only word I can think of to describe the past two years is AWE!

Awe is defined as “a strong feeling of respect, fear, and wonder caused by something grand or extremely powerful.” As believers, we know in our heads that God is grand and extremely powerful. Yet, as we have watched the prayer requests in our newsletters turn into praises for answered prayer month after month, that head knowledge has become a deep movement of the heart—a sense of wonder and reverence for our grand and powerful Lord.

One dear friend once said to us, “I wish I could financially support you like I did before, but I do pray for you every day.” Her words remind me of Oswald Chambers’ statement: “Prayer does not fit us for the greater works; prayer is the greater work.”

Thank you friends for doing the greater work, praying for us and for the ministry of Harvest Aviation. We are deeply aware that we are not  alone. Your prayers are an essential part of the work God is doing, and we are grateful.

Chad and Sarah and Family

Matthew and JoLynn

and Maya

One of the sweetest highlights has been the relationships God has given us with our pilots in training and their families—Matthew and JoLynn and their precious little girl, and Chad and Sarah and their five energetic children. We have grown to love these families, and watching them willingly surrender their futures to God has touched our hearts deeply.

Their journey takes us back to our own years of stepping out in faith with our two school-aged children to teach in Slovakia and later in Ukraine. What we thought would be a short-term commitment became seven years of our lives and taught us lessons we still carry today.

Looking back, there are things we would have done differently, especially with  our priorities.

One of the greatest lessons we have learned is that our most important ministry begins with the condition of our own personal relationship with Christ. Spending time in His Word and cultivating a deep hunger to know Him and nurture that relationship is what builds a firm foundation. When the unexpected comes—and it will—we pray that the testimony of Christ will remain strong because our lives are deeply rooted in Him.

As Vic teaches Matthew and Chad to fly and prepares them to become ACE mission pilots, our deeper desire is to come alongside these young families and model what it truly means to be an ACE disciple of Jesus Christ. More than anything, we want our lives to reflect what it looks like to keep Christ at the center—not simply in ministry, but in every moment of every day.

The airplane is an important tool, but it is only a tool. The transformative work is the work God is doing in the hearts and lives of those who have chosen to serve Him. It is our prayer that, through this season of training and doing life together, these young families will see not only how to fly an airplane, but what it looks like to faithfully follow Christ wherever He leads.

We are grateful for the privilege of walking alongside the younger generation and we are reminded once again that when we give God our yes, He is faithful to lead the way.

We have spent time over the past two weeks visiting our children, along with other family and friends, probably the reason for being so reflective. Honestly, being at a great distance from family is one of the most difficult parts of this season because it means missing those everyday moments.

I am so grateful for FaceTime and for our children’s commitment to call us and answer when we call! I am also thankful for opportunities like the one we had in September to be together. Those times are precious, and they remind me that although distance changes the way we experience relationships, it does not diminish our family bond.

The pilot’s wife is especially grateful to each of you who prays for us in this season. It is not always easy to surrender our plans, our expectations, and even our future. Yet, we continue to trust in the infinite mercy and grace of our faithful God.

  • Praise God for the protection He provides during training flights with student and advanced pilots
  • Praise God  for the relationships Harvest staff members are building in the local aviation community
  • Praise God for the visits God orchestrated during our travels to and from Ohio

Please Pray :

  • We would be very deliberate in our mentoring relationships
  • We would daily recognize that service to God is not the same as closeness to Him.
  • Safety for the pilots as they fly in the unpredictable weather of the fall season
  • Harvest staff would  seek God's leading in conducting missionary support flights
  • The sale of the planes: Cessna 401 and the Seneca
