Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid. — Matthew 14:29-30
Darla and I were having our morning devotions and coffee. We opened up My Utmost for His Highest, Oswald Chamber’s teachings written over a century ago. The Holy Spirit guides us through our current circumstances so we can live victorious lives. On this day, we were feeling a little nervous about our choice to start another chapter in our lives that involved settling in a new location, raising support and once more depending on God alone to meet our needs. It’s a place we have been before, and we have experienced His faithfulness. Jesus said to Peter, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” It seems that I need to learn that same lesson over again, even after experiencing God’s faithfulness in the sale of our camper. We had only one couple seriously interested in seeing our camper, and that one couple, that God obviously sent at the perfect time, bought it for the price we needed to purchase a car.
Last summer, I took Darla up in the airplane for our first ride together in 29 years. She is a great copilot, watching for traffic and navigating just like she used to. After we landed, I asked her how she liked it. She responded that she had a little more fear now, compared to when we flew when we were younger. I asked her why, and she responded, “Maybe because I know more now than I did before!” Well, in the same way, I should know more now than I did before. I should remember that Jesus has taken us to Slovakia, Ukraine and Haiti. He made crooked roads straight and provided for our family every time. I need to keep my eyes on Jesus, and increase my faith. Hebrews 11:6 tells me that faith pleases God.
I have begun flight instruction for one student. We are in the process of finalizing the apprenticeship of another young man, and I expect that he and I will start flying together in early July. In addition to flight instructing, I am assisting the director of Harvest Aviation with various administrative tasks like onboarding of volunteers and apprentices. Harvest Aviation continues to wait on the FAA to finalize a date for the inspection of our twin-engine Piper Chieftain. Once the FAA approves the plane, our flights to support Christian missionaries will resume. It is an exciting time here, as God is bringing new partners who have a heart for the mission of Harvest Aviation.
As always, we are humbled and grateful for your partnership!
